In science today i learned about leaves and plants. A gorse bush has leaves that are rolled up to from spines. Outline the advantage to the gorse bush of having these types of leaves. Rolled leaves like those on a gorse bush provide protection from grazing animals such as cows.
Plants on the forest floor often have large lamina. Outline the advantage to these plants of having such a large lamina. Because there is a limited amount of light on the forest floor, plants need large lamina to catch more of the available light.
List the two molecules joined to make glucose. Carbon dioxide and water.
Outline where the plant gets these two molecules from. Carbon dioxide through the stomata. Water is taken in by the roots.
State where photosynthesis occurs within the leaf. Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts.
Explain why plants are called producers. Plants are called producers because they are able to make (produce) their own food.
What are stomata? Stomata are small holes on the underside of the leaf.
Name the pigment responsible for the green colour of leaves. Chlorophyll.
That is my reflection of today's science.
